Chapter Six

Dakota watched the sheets of rain that poured from the sky. The rumble of thunder loud above her with furious flashes of lightening gave her glimpse of the angry weather. Las Vegas hadn’t seen a storm like this in a long time. She should get in her vehicle and start the drive home, but she couldn’t stop staring.

Some part deep down felt as though the storm was a warning.

It was ridiculous. Mother Nature couldn’t warn her about anything. but the feeling wouldn’t leave. Instead, every instinct was screaming at her to prepare for an attack. Dakota was too smart an agent to ignore the sense of danger.

She clicked the key fob and unlocked an SUV before climbing behind the wheel. A deep breath told her that no one had been inside or around recently. That helped her relax her shoulders and ease the tension. She hadn’t gotten a chance to go out into Pack territory, but a text from Kieran had her needing to head back to their suite.

Kieran needed to tell her something and she just knew that it was bad.

Her hands were steady as she put the key into the ignition. She turned on her vehicle before checking the mirrors then backed out carefully. There was no one else in the parking garage. It wasn’t the end of shift so most agents were still out on patrol. Dakota drove out, pausing to wave at the guard, before turning left to take her back home.

She darted her gaze all around her.

Not only was she looking out for the blue sedan from that afternoon but also any signs of danger.

Nothing.

Dakota had no idea why she felt so uneasy.

Still, Kieran had told her once again to be careful and watch her back until she returned to him. Dakota would heed his advice.

The entire drive seemed to take double the time than usual. It wasn’t just the rain slowing her down. Taking note of everything and everyone on the street was nerve-racking.

She blew out a long breath when she finally pulled into the private parking garage. Kieran was close by. She might not be able to feel his presence, but she knew he was only a few steps away. Dakota was home.

Even though the casino and hotel should be safe, she wasn’t going to take any chances. Dakota peered around the small area. The parking garage was almost full, but no one was hanging around or walking toward the doors. It was probably due to the weather. Still, she couldn’t shake the eerie feeling.

Dakota grabbed her bag and exited her SUV before locking it with the remote. She made a mad dash across the lot until she reached the glass door. It had rained so much that the sidewalks and entryway was flooded.

“Here you go!”

She glanced up and saw an attractive man holding open the door for her.

“Thanks.” She stepped in with him at her heels.

“You’re welcome,” he said with a smile. “I thought it didn’t rain here.”

Dakota laughed. She had to shake off the water before brushing down her bag.
